Summary of Ideal Candidate:   Strong aptitude and prior experience or education in an industrial manufacturing setting up and operating Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines and various manual machines to perform such functions as turning, cutting, drilling, milling, reaming, and boring of metallic workpieces using standard work instructions.  Must demonstrate the willingness, proven ability, and initiative to identify problems and work out solutions. 

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Reads and interprets blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings, and machining methods and sequences
  • Mounts, aligns, and secures tooling, attachments, and work piece on machine
  • Uploads and downloads program
  • Calculates and sets machine controls to position spindle in relationship to work piece and to regulate factors such as cutting depth, speed, feed, and coolant flow
  • Starts machine and monitors displays and machine operation to detect malfunctions
  • Stops machine to change cutting tools and setup according to required machining sequence or to measure parts for conformance to blueprint specifications
  • Enters commands or manually adjusts machine controls to correct malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining
  • Operates machine manually to perform no automated functions and when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions
  • Discusses control media errors with LOPL or programming personnel to resolve problems
  • Inspects first run piece and spot checks succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications
  • Inspects and changes tooling as required for continuous operation of machine
  • Identifies problems and work out solutions
  • Work in other disciplines such as Assembly, Test, etc. as needed


     Training/Skill Requirements:          

  • Ability to use machine shop math and perform basic computations
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, including geometric dimensioning and tolerance
  • Ability to identify and solve problems
  • Ability to pass certification for fork truck license

     Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

     Experience Requirements:

  • 2 years’ experience working in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • 1 year CNC experience required; 2 years preferred
  • 1 year experience reading micrometers and other precision measuring instruments required;
    2 years preferred

     Physical Demands:

  • Ability to perform repetitive lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
